KHARTOUM — At least 11 people were killed and five injured on Saturday when Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters attacked a displacement camp in Sudan's West Darfur state, a regional official said Sunday, according to Anadolu Agency.

The agency identified the official as Babiker Hamdeen, health and social welfare minister in the Darfur Regional Government. Anadolu said he spoke to Sudan's state news agency, SUNA.

Details of the attack

According to Anadolu's account of Hamdeen's statement, the attack took place in the Hajar Sanakit area of Sirba locality, in West Darfur. Anadolu reported that Hamdeen gave the casualty figures as preliminary.

Women and children made up most of the casualties, Hamdeen said, according to the agency. The report did not give a breakdown by age or sex. It did not name any of the victims.

Anadolu reported that the people at the camp had fled villages near the border between Sudan and Chad last year. Hamdeen said RSF fighters had allegedly burned their homes and looted their belongings. Anadolu presented this as the minister's claim. The report does not say whether it has been independently verified.

Official reaction

Hamdeen condemned the attack, Anadolu reported. He described it as a serious breach of international humanitarian law. He also accused the RSF of repeatedly targeting civilians in Darfur, according to the agency.

The minister also warned about the response from abroad, Anadolu said. He argued that continued international inaction over attacks on civilians could encourage further violations. He said it could also let those responsible avoid accountability.

What is not confirmed

Anadolu said there was no immediate comment from the RSF on the accusations. The report relies on one official's account as relayed through SUNA. It does not cite eyewitnesses, aid agencies or independent monitors. The casualty figures could change, since Hamdeen described them as preliminary.

The report does not say who was in control of the area at the time of the attack. It does not say whether the camp was inside a part of West Darfur held by the army or by the RSF. It also does not give the number of people living at the camp.

Background

Anadolu said the Sudanese army and the RSF have been fighting since April 2023. According to the agency, the conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions. It said the war has worsened what was already a severe humanitarian crisis.

Darfur is a western region of Sudan that borders Chad. The report describes West Darfur as one of the states where displaced families are sheltering. Anadolu said the victims in this attack had already been uprooted once, when they fled their villages last year.

The Darfur Regional Government is the administration whose minister gave the figures. Anadolu did not describe its relationship to the army or the RSF in its report.

Zenga News has not independently verified the casualty figures or the accounts attributed to Hamdeen. All details in this report come from Anadolu Agency's coverage published on 19 October 2026.
